Haven't got a number yet? Which type of number will be best for your business?
In choosing a type of number range for your business, your first consideration should be your caller profile. Are your target customers in the main residential, if so and you wish to maximise enquiries, an 0800 number. Most residential customers know that these calls will be free for them.
Are your target customers primarily business customers? Then a local area code is probably best the route to go. If your target customers are likely to be from across the UK, then perhaps consider a 0300/0330 number or 0844/0845 numbers. Unlike other non geographic numbers, calls to 03xx numbers must be included in any inclusive call minute packages or discount schemes offered by fixed and mobile network operators and from payphones. Again, most customers understand that 0844/0845 numbers are charged at a local rate. Are you offering a service that customers would expect to pay for, maybe technical support lines etc, then 0870/0870/09xx are the way to go.
Public sector, non profit or charity organisation? Then 0300 numbers were introduced by Ofcom as a non-geographic alternative to chargeable 08xx numbers. Calls to 03xx numbers cost the same as calls to standard UK area code numbers (ie those beginning with 01 or 02).
0330 numbers have the same criteria as above but are available for all commercial organisations.
Have multiple numbers! With all our services multiple incoming numbers can be accommodated. So why not have an 0800, UK area code and an 0870 number all available and targeted at different markets and measure your responses?
